Episode 11: Escape (demo)
by Lauren on May 20th, 2007
I has write a new song!
This is the first song I’ve written all by myself in months (guitars and lyrics) and the first song I’ve written that I actually like. Escape encapsulates what I feel about depression and the desperation to do something–anything–to get myself out of that funk. Lately I realized that traveling gives me a vacation from life and from myself, but it’s a vicious cycle really. The happier I am when I’m traveling, the more depressed I get when I have to return.
For obvious reasons I couldn’t exactly drag Kristel over to my place to record, so I’m doing this singing here. Please don’t expect much out of my voice; there’s a reason why I’m doing back-up vocals.
Oh, and we’ve decided to retain the name Borderline Virgins although Kimi, our original bassist, will be sorely missed. It won’t be the same without her.
Escape
By Borderline Virgins
I’m going away today
I’m tired of running this race
I’m packing my bags
I’m not looking back
at this sordid space
Don’t know where I’ll end up
but it’s gotta be better than this
I’ll take one for the road
cos it’s something that I’m gonna miss
I’m flying away
from this desolate place
from this desperate state
I’ll be happy today
but it’s just an escape
but it’s just an escape
The moment fades
I’m riding a speeding bus
down a road that I’ve never been
I’m letting the wind chase down
the sweat crawling out of my skin
Don’t know where I am now
but that doesn’t matter to me
Reality’s too far
and the sunlight is all I can see
I’m flying away
from this desolate place
from this desperate state
Hey hey hey
I’ll be happy today
but it’s just an escape
but it’s just an escape
Don’t want to go back to
the place where I should belong
Tomorrow comes too soon
and then everything good will go wrong
I’ll do all that it takes
to get out of this place
to get out of this state
Hey hey hey
I’ll be happy someday
cos someday I’ll escape
cos someday I’ll escape
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Hey hey hey
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na na
The moment fades
Episode 10: The Professor Song (demo)
by Lauren on May 5th, 2007
In which Kristel and I perform one of the first songs we wrote together. It’s called The Professor Song and needless to say, the lyrics aren’t particularly wholesome. For obvious reasons.
The Professor Song
By Our Band Has No Name!
It’s all your fault
coming into class like that
(fuckable man)
Coming into my head
(raping me there)
I want you
I want you…
NOW
Grab him by the ankles and
I’ll grab him by his arms and then
we’ll drag him to the back room and
let’s rob him of his charms and then
when we’re through we’ll leave him
bound and tied with time to think
I think professor…
It’s all your fault
teach me, show me, punish me
(I’ve been so bad)
I am ready for that
(oral exam)
I want you
I want to….
Grab him by the ankles and
I’ll grab him by his arms and then
we’ll drag him to the back room
and let’s rob him of his charms and then
when we’re through we’ll leave him
bound and tied with time to think
I think professor…
I deserve an A for that
Episode 9: Zombie (cover)
by Lauren on May 5th, 2007

In which Kristel and I perform our cover of Zombie. The full band version sounds far better of course, but we had to make do with nothing but my guitars and my multi-effects. It came out sounding pretty good. ![]()
Episode 8: Allamistako (demo)
by Lauren on May 2nd, 2007
In which Kristel and I perform an original song called Allamistako, which is the closest thing to a love song that we’ll probably ever do. I think this is one of the most beautiful things she has ever written and I’m glad I was able to come up with an awesome guitar solo to match it. The douchebag that inspired Allamistako does not deserve this song at all (though he is, admittedly, very good looking–think a younger version of Hugh Grant).
Not to be an attention-whore or anything, but we do need your criticism. So please–comment whether or not you like it (with an explanation of why, of course).
Allamistako
By Our Band Has No Name!
So it goes down like this
Train crash meld against the rails
I head for the meltdown
Found you instead
I choke on my promises
You make things so simple
I’m left without defenses
I’m caught in the middle
I’m headed for your crash site now
Been greeted by the bright lights
Making all the right stops, baby
To see the sad-eyed boy tonight
I’m waiting for you
I wake in the morning
And it’s just so unreal
We say hello to our mistakes
and all the victims of your wake
I’m headed for your crash site now
Been greeted by the bright lights
Making all the right stops, baby
To see the sad-eyed boy tonight
I’m waiting for you
(wicked guitar solo goes here :D)
I’m leaving all the casualties behind
Just leaving all of them behind
I’m leaving all my senses this time
I’m leaving all that’s rational
I’m heading for your crash site now
Been greeted by the bright lights
Making all the right stops baby
To see the sad-eyed boy tonight
I’m waiting for you
Just waiting for you
I’m waiting for you now, oh baby
Just you
Just you
Episode 7: Bourgeois Suicide (demo)
by Lauren on May 1st, 2007
In which Kristel and I talk about depression and perform a song we co-wrote called Bourgeois Suicide. Among all the songs we’ve written, this is probably my favorite because it captures exactly how I feel when the bell jar descends.
Background music: Loro by Pinback
Bourgeois Suicide
By Our New Band Has No Name!
Watch me fall apart,
with pins stuck in my heart.
They say her daddy,
he’s got some money
but that don’t mean a thing
when you’re falling apart
by the seams
Nothing’s gonna make it right
Nothing’s gonna be okay
Everything shatters tonight
I can never make it right
He’s got the last say
Watch me lose control
at 21 years old
The future’s open
but I’m too broken
I’m far beyond repair
and there’s no escape
None for me
